A Memorandum of Understanding is to be signed between
Akwa Ibom State Government and ICON Group for the
management of Ibom Hotel, Uyo.
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Orman Esin
announced this today, while briefing Government House
Correspondents after the State Executive Council Meeting.
He described ICON Group as an international hospitality
management firm, who will ensure the proper day-to-day
running of the Hotel, in line with the global best practices.

The Commissioner dismissed the rumor that the State
The government had sold Ibom Hotel to a private firm, describing
the speculations as false and baseless.
Mr. Esin made it clear that with the signing of the agreement,
Akwa Ibom State government retains one hundred percent
ownership of the hotel.

The Culture and Tourism Commissioner explained that the
choice of ICON Group for the management of Ibom Hotel was
as a result of its track record of performance and expertise in
Five Star hotels management in various countries in Africa,
including Kenya and Tanzania.
